If you’re following along on Instagram, you’ll know I’ve spent this past weekend in the Spanish capital. While the weekend was jam packed with meetings with friends, running errands, and a birthday party, I found time to have a cupcake at Sugar Factory Madrid. Read on to find out more about the new, beautifully decorated café/bakery in barrio Chamberí.
Anyone that knows me, knows I have an insatiable sweet tooth. I have a hard time saying ‘no’ to sweets, and would sooner go vegetarian than give up chocolate. When my boyfriend stumbled upon an article about a new café in Madrid last month, he showed it to me, knowing it was just my kind of place. As soon as I saw the Victorian-styled shop (and photos of their delicious cupcakes!) I knew I had to try out Sugar Factory on my next visit.
Fortunately, I didn’t have to wait too long, and last weekend I got to visit this adorable spot. Walking down Calle Argensola, I knew I had found the place when I noticed curious faces glancing into an artfully styled window display.
The shop’s decor included Victorian style chairs and tables, pastel colours, and a floral motif. As I waited for my friend to arrive, I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos of the gorgeous interior.
Mirror-lined shelves run along the entire back wall, displaying a variety of goods on sale. Planning a party? Sugar Factory Madrid stocks adorable paper goods that will add an adorable touch to any fiesta.
Of course the main attractions are their heavenly cupcakes, which come in over two dozen varieties. That morning, I had the tough decision of choosing just one among flavours that included Hershey’s chocolate, Tres Leches, Tiramisu and Oreo. In the end I opted for their strawberry cheesecake cupcake, which was exactly the right mix of sweet and sour I was craving.
You can order cupcakes ‘to go’ or enjoy them in the small seating area in the back of the shop. If you’re not in the mood for cupcake, they also have savoury bites to munch on. Enjoy your snack with a coffee, tea, or juice.
Sugar Factory Madrid surpassed my expectations, and you can bet that whenever I’m in town, I’ll do my best to find an excuse to stop by.
